Smarty Pants

My daughter is much smarter than I give her credit for.

I saw Bean at Costco last week and I was with Miah when she asked "Any news?" I gave her the panicked look like "She has no clue.... Shhhhh!"

On our way to the car Miah asked "Mom, what was Jill talking about?" So of course I lie and say, "There's a surprise for you...." Instantly she says "What surprise? What is it... What is it?!" I told her I couldn't tell her until we got back from Ca. At this point I still had hope we would see a BFP (that's infertility talk for Big Fat Positive) before we got back.

For those of you who didn't read the last post, Aunt Flow showed up last night. (DB!)

So this morning Miah starts asking about her surprise again. She then says "Mom, I know what it is... I'm going to have a sibling."

I always told myself I would be as honest as I could and talk to Miah about anything; child appropriate of course.

So I told her the good news... "We're trying to make a baby!" Her first reaction was "Nooooo!"

Just to give you a little back ground, a couple years ago I asked Miah how she would feel about having a brother or sister and she said she didn't want one.
She said she was scared I wouldn't love her any more (heart break!).

I reassured her and told her a tiny white lie. I told her all parents love their first born the most! Ha... (We all know that's not true, I'm the baby and my Mom definitely loves me the most!) Jkjk

Luckily my friend Annalise was there and had some big elaborate story about how Mommy's grow extra love in their belly for nine months and when the baby arrives all the love that grew all those months goes straight to her... Or something like that. (Thanks, TwinneR!)

We have a few friends who have already done the turkey baster (yes, people really do that) method and others who have done AI, so luckily we've been given a few opportunities to talk to Miah about how it works. We've also asked her several times how she felt about a little brother and sister and she said she wanted a sister.

After talking to her about the big "Noooo....." reaction, Jackie and I explained to her how she will still be loved, still get to experience all the things she gets to now, but now she will have to share the number one spot with her little brother or sister. She said she was okay with that.

Now won't stop asking 543,327 questions!!

I was nervous to tell her about it, but I'm glad she knows. I explained the possibility of things not working out as planned, but the good thing about being a lesbian is my wifey can always carry.

We're talking about her carrying another in two years possibly, as well.

So... I guess no more hush hush. The main thing we, as well as all our loved ones, need to do is show Miah she is just as important as the baby and make sure we include her in the process, as well as conversations about the baby.

We're heading to California to spend Christmas with the Wong's and show Miah the big city today.

Can't wait to expand our family! <3
