This is it!
I started 2017 making the decision that this would be the best year yet and it has been exactly that (well, minus our president's foolish knee-jerk, ego centric decisions).
On January 15th Kels and I celebrated our one year anniversary and I did it; I popped the big question!!! (Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh Will you move in? Jkjk ya'll know it was the other - Marry Me?!)
It's a crazy thing, deciding to share your life with someone. I've experienced and learned so many hurtful and so many amazing things in my 34.9 years. But.. when you know, you know, right? This is a first for me. Finding the one who truly loves me for me (the good, the bad and the ugly... and the ups, the downs and the in betweens). #Blessed
It was perfect! She had no idea and it couldn't have been any better of a day. Plus, my friend Sara Boulter was there to capture it all--she is amazing! If you ever need a photographer, check her out. (Sara Boulter Photography)
For those of you wondering, we won't be having a traditional wedding. This wedding (both of our 2nd) is going to be authentically us and will be a surprise event. (Surprise!) So PLEASE when we invite you to events, make every effort to be there because it just may be our big day! ;)
We had a lot of fun this month: the best New Year party yet, making one of the biggest commitments of our life, said yes to Maid of Honor for my best (#Lucky13KandA), snow days, a private concert by our friends Ally B-Side and the Tasty Licks, Sundance fun and ending on one of the greatest notes- celebrating what a great kid Miah is (keep it up mama).
Oh yeah, and I got a new job! CHG Healthcare will be my new home. Going from an hour commute a day to two minutes is going to be amazing. I have hit the jackpot! They created a new position that they were sure they had to hire internally for until they met me of course. ;) (kidding, kidding, kind of.) I'm so thankful for this opportunity. CHG is seriously an amazing company who cares not only about their community but their employees and culture as well and I cannot wait to "be me at CHG."
Then there was January 20, 2017... I would have never thought I would be so emotional with an Inauguration as such. I'm usually pretty good at being detached and able to see both sides but from what I have seen, and the more I learn about Trump, it saddens me to have someone like that (someone who misuses their power and is an adult bully) being the representative of our nation. However, it's also democracy in action. (I'm thankful for my friends and their spin on Inauguration day, lightening the blow.)
I pray for good from Trump and great support from Congress. Feeling nervous about my own rights, especially just getting engaged, it terrifies me to think some will try to take that right away from us... again.
I am very proud of President Obama standing up for LGBT and being brave enough to do what is right. We will see what the next four years hold. Hang on, pray for good and trust that God is in control and knows what he is doing.
And keep your fingers crossed these aren't the end days and Mr. Trump is not the third antichrist. I know many laugh at me for my beliefs but how scary.
Remember to be kind, to love all for their differences, and that we all were immigrants at one point or another.
